The Worst Covers Ever.

November 27th, 2009 by Kieran

Well i heard a song today, you know that feeling where your ears prick up and you think “oh hey there’s that song i like” Then the instant disappointment as you realise oh no wait. Someone is ruining it.  Here is my compilation of the top 5 songs that enrage everyone who has any love left for music.

Number 1

The X Factor finalists of 2009 Covering Michael Jackson’s ‘You are not alone’

Ok note for note it’s fine but egh, doesn’t it just turn your stomach? Where is the love? Where is the expression. Cashing in on Michael Jackson’s ridiculous talents and our unfortunate loss at Christmas time is all i hear in this awful cover.

2 Jason Derulo Covering Imogen Heap’s ‘Hide and seek’

Ok so he has only taken the bridge, and used it as a chorus. But dear god, this is a perfect example of taking a wonderful piece of art and modifying it to the point where it is barely recognisable but appeals to the masses. Well, i say masses, fortunately on the you tube video comments you will find so many people complaining about how awful this is. Imogen, miss Heap, i feel for your loss.

Here is the original for those of you who haven’t heard it yet, it really is worth a click.

3) Sugababes cover Aerosmith’s Walk this way.

It’s for charity, sure, still nothing excuses this.

4) All Saints cover The Red hot Chilli Pepper’s Under the bridge.

So much to complain about in this one song. How unsatisfying is the guitar intro without the second bar of each phrase?

The chord structure of the verses are changed completely changing the feel of the song from a dark song about nearly overdosing underneath a bridge and losing your life to a romantic poppy song.

Finaly the obligatory one time, two time, three time, generic vocals leave you reaching out to click the mute button.

5) Bono covering Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah

Ok sure we were all annoyed by someone from xfactor covering this in 2008, but to be frank i don’t even remember her name. Bono should know better. This is really awful, the speaking, the marginaly out of tune falsetto. Have a listen and laugh it up! =D

And finaly for comedic value, check out this band’s ‘incredible’ cover of the final countdown.

Thanks very much. I would like to add my band’s cover of The lonely island’s I’m on a boat.

Now that’s a quality cover = D

Did i pick the right 5? Do you disagree? Think i missed one out. Leave me a comment.
